Revised Standards & Guidelines for Accreditation of Education in Orthotics & Prosthetics

The National Commission for Orthotic and Prosthetic Education (NCOPE) announced that the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) has approved the revised Standards and Guidelines for Accreditation of Education in Orthotics and Prosthetics to a require a Master’s for entry level into the field affective 2012.

St. Petersburg College is establishing a consortium with Florida State University (FSU) to meet this new requirement. The current plan is upon completion of the course work at SPC; the student would earn a BAS in Orthotics and Prosthetics and then apply and matriculate to FSU. The student must meet all of the requirements to earn the Master’s of Science in Industrial Engineering, with specialization in Engineering Management of Orthotics and Prosthetics (MSIE-EMOP). These courses will be offered online or via distance education at the Health Education Center of SPC. Upon successful completion of NCOPE residency and ABC national examinations, a graduate enters the field of Orthotics and Prosthetics.
