What is an internship? An internship is a temporary paid or unpaid learning experience offered by a business or other organization to a student to provide practical work experience which is applicable to the student's major or career. It is a mutually beneficial relationship for students and employers that may lead to employment, but it is not a guarantee of a full-time career or even a part-time job. What’s in it for students?
What’s in it for employers?
How does it work? The Business Technologies Internship Program at St. Petersburg College engages the resources of Business Technologies faculty, staff, students, and employers in preparing students for gratifying business technologies careers. St. Petersburg College does not investigate jobs, job sites, job conditions, student or employer backgrounds, or act as an employment agency. The student is not considered an employee of either St. Petersburg College or the company in which the student is performing an internship. Therefore the student is not entitled to any type of benefits including workers compensation. The Business Technologies Internship Program provides a clearinghouse for student and employer internship opportunities. All that is necessary to participate as a student or employer is a one page application. There are no preliminary requirements about pay, hours worked, or duration of an internship arrangement.
