Developmental Writing

• Building a Text - In this short exercise, a writing scenario is posed to students. They are given two sets of paragraphs from which they choose two paragraphs in order to "compile" their short essay Each student decides upon a version, prints it out and then discusses with classmates the reasoning behind the choices.


• Word Choice - Students proofread a letter attempting to find improperly chosen words.

PHI 1600: Applied Ethics

• Whistle Blowing - In this simulation, the student decides what to do when faced with ethical improprieties in a work environment.
• Act Utilitarianism - In this simulation, the student demonstrates understanding of the decision-making process promoted by Act Utilitarianism. This simulation should be used after the student has read pgs.112-20 in Ethics Applied (4th edition).
