Apollo Award

2007 APOLLO FINALISTS

  And the winner is...

The Board of Directors of the St. Petersburg College Alumni Association, Inc., annually selects the most outstanding graduating sophomore student for the Apollo Award. Any degree-seeking student completing the requirements for graduation may apply to receive the Apollo Award at the spring ceremony. Students who graduated at any of the commencement ceremonies since the preceding spring ceremony also are eligible.

The winner of the highly prestigious Apollo Award receives an Apollo Plaque, a scholarship check for $1,000, a lifetime membership in the SPC Alumni Association, and a one-year honorary appointment to the SPC Alumni Association Board of Directors. His/her name will be inscribed on a permanent trophy at the college.

The criteria for selection are:

  • At least a 3.25 GPA.
  • Demonstrated leadership qualities.
  • Been involved in college activities.
  • Participated in community service.

Also considered during the screening/judging process is the student's statement of why he/she believes he/she deserves the honor, as well as the letter(s) of recommendation submitted on the student's behalf.

Nominations may be submitted to each site's screening committee (through the campus Student Activities Office) by a full-time or part-time employee of SPC, an alumnus of SPC or a currently enrolled student. Each nomination must be received by the screening committee no later than March 1, 2008. The application must include the student's name, campus, and the name and title of the person making the nomination. Each year, the deadlines will be announced at least three (3) weeks ahead of the submissions deadline. The announcement will be placed in the weekly employee newsletter, in each campus' newsletter for students, on the SPC Web site, on college bulletin boards, and through e-mail notices to key SPC faculty and staff.

The screening committees will ask nominees to prepare dossiers containing the following:

  • Apollo Award Application form, completed and signed;**
  • official transcript of all classes taken while at SPC; and
  • no more than three letters of recommendation.

Applications must be submitted to the screening committee by the specified deadline. No materials will be accepted after this deadline. The deadline will be announced each year at least three (3) weeks in advance.

**Only official application forms obtained from the screening committees (through the campus Student Activities Office) or this web site will be considered.
