Cynthia Hennessy
(Director-Teacher-Choreographer)

Cynthia has a broad background in modern, ballet, and jazz. Programs of study have included the London Contemporary Dance Evening School, Jacob's Pillow, and Florida State University, where a B.F.A. in Dance was earned in 1981. Her performance experience includes Avodah Dance Company, Dancemakers, and freelance work in many local venues. She has worked extensively with her mentor, Barton Mumaw, principal dancer for Ted Shawn, exploring the influence of Delsarte movement principals on contemporary dance. In the last few years she has enjoyed exploring improvisation, contact improvisation and Kinetic Awareness. Cynthia has been teaching and choreographing at St. Petersburg College since 1972, Eckerd College since 1992. Her choreography is presented biannually at SPC, and annually at Eckerd. She has also presented works at the University of Tampa, Florida Dance Festivals, the Southeastern Regional college Dance Festival, and the Off Center Theater. In 1997 she and two other choreographers founded Moving Current, Tampa Bay's first professional contemporary dance collective, created to promote dance and the surrounding arts. When not dancing she is trying desperately to keep her four children in clean clothes and the weeds out of her garden.

Nancy Feagans-Smith
(Director-Teacher-Choreographer)

Nancy received her B.F.A. in Dance from the University of Florida in 1980 and her MS in Health Education from Nova University in 1986. She has been teaching at SPC since 1983 and has been Co-Director of CoMotion Dance Theatre since 1986 and the SPC Dance Repertory since 1985.

Nancy has choreographed extensively since beginning her career and has shown works with The Dance Makers, SPC, Eckerd College and TPAC's Off Center Theater. She has also choreographed several musicals including Godspell, Cabaret, Music Man and South Pacific.

Her professional teaching credits include SPC, The Artist In Education Program of the Pinellas County Arts Council, and Eckerd College. Her performance credits include the University of Florida Dance Company, New Moves Dance Company, the Dancemakers and CoMotion Dance Theatre.

Nancy recently returned to school where she has completed over half the credit hours towards a Master of Arts in Humanities.
