The EA/EO officer's role

EA/EO officers:

  • are advocates for fairness;
  • listen to and discuss your question or concern;
  • are impartial;
  • analyze your situation;
  • provide you with information that answers your question
    or helps you locate someone who can assist you;
  • explain the college's policies and procedures and how they may affect you;
  • explain problem-solving channels and develop options;
  • assist you with pursuing a resolution;
  • make requests for reconsideration or changes in decisions and advocate
    an equitable solution when a complaint has merit; and
  • follow up with you and others at the college to make sure concerns are resolved.

An EA/EO officer cannot:

  • replace or circumvent existing channels;
  • serve as an advocate for the client or the college;
  • have authority to direct any college office to change a decision;
  • offer legal advice;
  • make decisions for you;
  • have a stake in outcomes; or
  • impose penalties.
