Quotes
Institutional Advancement Director PATTY JONES, talking about the importance of building enrollment:
"It takes all of us embracing change and working together to communicate the message and to build enrollment - which, by the way, drives our budget and justifies our jobs."
"John F. Kennedy said, 'Our progress as a nation can be no swifter than our progress in education.' To this I would add: Our progress in education can be no swifter than our ability to enroll students. Without students, we cease. The bottom line continues to be an eagerness and willingness to do what it takes to build enrollment."
Guest Speaker ROBERT L. WHITE, commenting on the coming display this fall of his John F. Kennedy collection in the Florida International Museum:
"It is a surreal moment to be here. A singular phone call from your president - and his wife - started to make my dream come true. Carl Kuttler and this community will always be No. 1 in my heart."
"That JFK rocking chair eclipses everything else. More famous rears have sat in that chair than in any chair in history."
Regarding a 5-page personal note from Jackie Kennedy to JFK's secretary, Evelyn Lincoln: "It will be worth the price of admission to see that letter."
HEC Associate Provost and EA/EO Director MARY SMITH, speaking on minority student support services:
"Our students are not looking for a handout - just a hand."
"Students don't care what you know until they know that you care."
Faculty Senate President MARTHA CAMPBELL, looking at the year ahead:
"We would be foolish to think the education politics of the state do not affect us."
"We have a wonderfully talented faculty. No doubt, we have a wonderful future."
President CARL M. KUTTLER JR., in his closing comments:
"This faculty has the wherewithal . . . to present the latest and the best. We can rush into the 21st century -and we can drag the others with us."
"What I've learned is, you can close the door - and 25 windows will open that you can climb out of."
