Lockdown Checklist-Active Shooter Incident
 

Secure immediate area

·          Lock and barricade doors

·         Turn off lights

·         Close blinds

·         Block windows

·         Turn off radios

·         Stay calm, quiet and out of sight

·         Get down on the floor and take adequate cover i.e. under or behind concrete walls, thick desks, filing cabinets (cover may protect you from bullets)

·     Try to warn other faculty, students and visitors to take immediate shelter

·         Silence cell phones, radios, or other devices that emit

·         Place signs in exterior windows to identify the location of injured persons

 

     Un-Securing an area

·       Remember, the shooter will not stop until engaged by an outside force

·       Stay in the secured area until given the all clear if possible.

·       Attempts to rescue people should only be made if it can be accomplished without further endangering the persons inside a secured area

 

Contacting Authorities

·         Use Emergency 9-911

·         NOTE: the 911 system may be overwhelmed. It is recommended that the security dispatch number 341-2560 be programmed into all cell phones for emergency use 

·         Email/text messaging may be an option if unable to speak.

 

What to Report

·         Your specific location or building name and office or room number

·          Number of people at your specific location

·          Number and type of injuries 

·         Number and locations of assailants, race and gender, clothing description, physical features, weapons types (long gun or hand gun), backpack, shooter's identity if known, number of gunshots, etc

 

Police Response

      ·     Engage the assailant as quickly as possible

      ·     Evacuate occupants/victims as soon as it can safely be done

·          Facilitate follow up medical care, interviews, and counseling

·          Investigate
