FACC is back
SPC’s chapter of FACC (Florida Association of Community Colleges) announces its first meeting for 2009-10. FACC is a primary voice with the Florida Legislature as well as an excellent source of information and networking with others from around the state.
If you have been involved in the past and would like to “re-energize” our chapter, or if you are new to the college and want to learn more about this important association, please join us from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2 in the EpiServices building, Room 110. Plans for campus meetings will be discussed and recommendations for representatives to send to the annual FACC convention in Orlando will be made. We also will address the need for officers to lead the chapter into the new year. If you have any questions, please call Peg Connell at Ext. 3398.
From the Chapter President:
In late February, I met with Doug Duncan (our chapter liaison with the President’s Cabinet) and Dr. Kuttler, seeking guidance about how to proceed with our local chapter. I explained that I agreed to stay on as President for a third year only if someone emerged as a President-Elect who would be an active leader for the Chapter. As you know, in the current work climate, everybody is very stretched, and, quite understandably, we were unable to identify someone who could assume this role. Dr. Kuttler completely understands this, as he also understands that I am unable to continue to lead as I did in the past two years.
Dr. Kuttler asked that I stay on as President for this year, but in a limited capacity. He suggested we maintain the Chapter but with a decreased level of activity. We will be holding only 2 meetings this year – one in the Spring and one in the Fall, and not pursuing any Chapter activities, including not applying for Chapter of the Year. At the end of the year, we will evaluate where we are, and make decisions for next year.
In the meantime, I am asking Brenda Starr to continue as Treasurer and to prepare monthly fiscal reports for the file. Brenda will report on the Chapter status at our meeting in the spring.
It is such an honor to work with all of you – and getting to know so many of you has been a great joy for me. I thank you for your commitment to our Chapter and for the enthusiasm you have shown for the model we have developed over the past two years. Hopefully, next year, the Chapter will be able to resume where we have left off and continue to support the College and our students with meaningful activities.
Best regards,
Peg Connell
