    AFC is very involved in advocacy on behalf of the state college profession. Once the Florida Legislature is in session, the association identifies legislation that could affect its members and mobilizes the membership through a series of educational meetings and informative publications.

Observing exemplary practices presentations by other colleges stimulated me to carefully review what we do at our own college. That motivated me to improve our practices within my area of expertise and in turn to share what we have implemented with our colleagues at other colleges. I joined FACC in 2001, when I was nominated for a Technology Commission award. I had to become a member to accept it! I never realized that FACC (now AFC) was so faculty centered until I became involved at the state level. Getting to know members of our own SPC chapter has not only led to many friendships across campuses but helped me understand the workings of the College. I especially enjoy the fundraising and community projects.

AFC is the one organization which represents all of us at the college, and all employees at the State Colleges across Florida. That provides strength in numbers when the time comes to talk about the policy issues which are critical for us. And, at the same time, through the councils, commissions and other AFC activities, we have a rich array of opportunities for professional development and sharing of best practices.
