POSITION TITLE: Coordinator, Energy & Mechanical Services

 

 

DEPARTMENT:    Facilities        SITE: EPI

 

SALARY SCHEDULE:     A&P      LEVEL:   C

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provide professional services to analyze current energy and utility usage and develop a College energy management plan in order to provide proper environmental conditions with efficient energy utilization, focusing on sustainable design and maintenance practices.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

v      Develop and implement a college-wide energy conservation program encompassing the full spectrum of utilities consumption and other energy-related operations within the college.

v      Coordinate the efforts of Maintenance and Mechanical staff to achieve efficient use of resources while minimizing the effects on staff and students.

v      Ensure that energy management operations are supportive of the instructional goals of the college.

v      Continually review the technical features of buildings HVAC, lighting and other consuming systems to ensure optimal energy efficiency and make recommendations for improvements.

v      Assisting in the identification, preparation and recommendation of energy cost reduction opportunities including economic analysis.

v      Assisting in the development and promotion of energy awareness and training programs at all College campuses.

v      Prepare the annual energy budget with the Director of Facilities Services.

v      Employ effective interpersonal skills.

v      Recommend sustainable practices and policies directed toward energy conservation.

v      Develop long-range plans for implementing innovations.

v      Assist maintenance supervisors in evaluating HVAC and other equipment to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.

v      Develop training options and/or improvement plans to ensure the most efficient operation of HVAC and other equipment.

v      Pursue an aggressive program to reduce college costs for energy.

v      Assume responsibility for compiling, tracking, and monitoring all energy reports, billings, and other related documents.

v      Maintain a continuous activity schedule for all buildings in order to coordinate efficient usage.

v      Utilize consultants when necessary to identify energy conservation measures.

v      Compile utility budgets and energy conservation measure cost estimates based upon documented program needs.

v      Pursue outside funding sources for equipment retrofits.

v      Maintain liaison with equipment suppliers in order to conduct bidding process for equipment upgrades and retrofits.

v      Monitor all facilities design and construction activities as they relate to energy conservation and management.

v      Provide design review services to ensure that new construction projects are consistent with the college’s energy management plan.

v      Work to develop/refine architectural specifications for energy conservation purposes.

v      Recommend maintenance supply and equipment purchases to ensure energy efficient replacements are being specified.

v      Implement the policies established by federal and state law, State Department of Education rule, and College policy in the area of energy conservation.

v      Provide regular reports as to the overall effectiveness of the energy management program.

v      Demonstrate awareness of college and community needs and initiate activities to meet those identified needs.

v      Approve utility bill payments.

v      Commitment to work irregular hours (nights, weekends and holidays).

v      Develop and present energy consumption and usage reports at meetings.

v      May be required to attend continuing education classes.

v      Analyze and interpret technical data and communicate with non-technical individuals.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Engineering Technology or related field or must have the equivalent of 8-10 years experience working in a similar related field. 

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to understand and coordinate an energy management program.

 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Operate standard office equipment including a personal computer using program applications such as MS Word, MS Excel or appropriate to assigned duties. Working knowledge of construction details and ability to read and interpret blueprints/ specifications.  Able to perform all required functions necessary to conduct building inspections and audits.  Knowledge of safety precautions required in the building trades. Knowledge  and understanding of HVAC control Systems.  Ability to climb ladders. Ability to lift heavy equipment. Knowledge of sentence structure and word usage. Skill in reading comprehension. Knowledge of basic mathematics. Ability to pass a post qualification physical examination. Ability to effectively utilize labor and material resources.

 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Must possess a valid driver's license.
