TITLE: Coordinator, Veteran Affairs
DEPARTMENT:

BASIC FUNCTION:
Plans,
organizes and directs activities relating to providing support services for
students who are veterans. Provides leadership certifying
students for VA benefits and other services for veterans designed to enhance
student success.
RESPONSIBILITIES:

Serves
as the College’s official representative for veteran affairs administration
with local, state, and national agencies.
·
Provides
leadership, direction, and supervision for veteran affairs staff college-wide.
·
Plans,
develops, implements and monitors department goals, policies and procedures for
all services provided to veterans.
·
Prepares
and manages the department budget for veteran services.
·
Chairs
the Veteran Affairs Advisory Board to enhance accountability and develop
effective services and programs for veterans.
·
Maintains
state and federal policies and procedures for admission, competency, and exit
testing services. Provides training to testing services and other academic and
student affairs staff accordingly.

Maintains
and fosters articulation activities with the VA, the community, colleges and
universities, and academic programs regarding veteran affairs and student
success.
·
Provides
staff development and other training to ensure that current information is used
to determine student eligibility for VA benefits and certification for funding.
·
Responsible
for coordinating communication with veterans and developing a veteran services
website to enhance awareness of services available.
·
Maintains
cooperation and works collaboratively with academic and student affairs leaders
to coordinate services and troubleshoot problems for veteran students.
·
Coordinates
with the disabilities department for students who need accommodations and
assists staff to effectively serve veteran students.

Performs
related duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT:
Bachelor’s
degree required. Masters degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Two (2) years experience in veteran affairs, adult
counseling, or case management.
KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS
Knowledge of the local, state and
national laws, educational benefits and services available to veterans. Knowledge of policies and
procedures relating to educational services provided for veterans. Knowledge of
the student system and data base is preferred. Ability to
work cooperatively with SPC departments, staff and veterans. Written and
oral communication skills. Organizational and interpersonal skills. Computer
skills.
