FUNCTION:
Coordinates
and evaluates all aspects of school-based placements and internships.
This position
reports directly to the Dean of the College of Education.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Informs
the Dean of Education regarding issues and area school districts that
might impact COE students, faculty, policies or procedures.
- Evaluates
school-based and internship programs, including preparing an annual report
identifying strengths and weaknesses and areas of future improvement.
- Develops
and maintains forms for the school-based experiences and internships.
These forms are to operate and evaluate the program, and to evaluate
students who move through the various programs of study within the College
of Education.
- Prepares
and maintains enrollment and placement data on all students in
school-based experiences and the internships.
- Collects
data on program completers and employers of program completers. This is
the Florida Administrative Code (FAC) Section 240.529.
- Manages
all student records and forms associated with school-based hours and the
internship.
- Notifies
faculty in a timely manner of students who have not completed the required
school-based hours associated with the course.
- Assures
a variety of placements for all students. (Elementary students need
placements in both lower and upper elementary school settings; special
education students would need placements in elementary as well as
secondary school settings; this would include junior high school; math and
science majors would need placements at middle school, junior and senior
high settings.)
- Maintain
accurate records to insure a variety of school settings (i.e., Pasco,
Hernando and Pinellas Counties).
- Selects
and trains College of Education supervisors.
- Writes
and updates the College of Education Internship Handbook and the
School-Based Experiences Handbook.
- Coordinates
meetings of the College of Education advisory committee.
- Fosters
a climate of academic excellence.
- Arranges
school-based experiences and internships placements for all students in
the College of Education.
- Serves
as liaison with Pinellas, Pasco and Hernando County School Districts.
- Trains
cooperating teachers in the use of Danielson’s assessment.
- Promotes
and explains the mission of SPC’s College of Education to area districts
and to the public.
- Conducts
surveys of cooperating teachers of school-based experiences as well as
surveys of cooperating teachers of the internship.
- Keeps
records of all agreements between the College of Education and the school
districts.
- Resolves
problems associated with school-based placements or the internship.
- Maintains
congruency of goals between personnel associated with the school-based
experiences or the internships.
- Coordinates
background checks of students entering the College of Education. Maintains
records of individuals who have not passed the FBI fingerprint check, but
have passed the FDLE background check. Notifies the Dean, appropriate
faculty and districts of the status of students.
- Keeps
accurate records on all background checks so that the College of Education
is aware of any problems.
- Notifies
students that they have not passed the background check. Also works with
school districts to remove students who may have passed the FDLE background
check but who did not clear the FBI background and need to be removed from
the school-based placements.
- Coordinates
the registration of eligible students for the Florida Teacher
Certification Exam (FTCE) so students are ready for the internship.
- Assures
that the College of Education has a release form from each student taking
the FTCE so that the COE would receive the test results.
- Coordinates
the training and preparation of students taking the Florida Teacher
Certification Exam, including study sessions to prepare students as
needed.
- Coordinates
the reporting of Florida Teacher Certification Exam results to the Dean.
- Performs
related duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s
degree required, Master’s degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
Five (5)
years experience as a K-12 classroom teacher including experience in program
coordination.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge
of education administration. Ability to work with
students, faculty and administrators in program development. Verbal and written communication skills. Management
and supervisory skills. Organizational and people
skills.
