POSITION TITLE: Director, Disability Resources                  

DEPARTMENT: Academic & Student Affairs       SITE: DO

SALARY SCHEDULE: A&P                                  GRADE: D/E

BASIC FUNCTION:

Directs the operations of the Disability Resources Department college-wide, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws and a high level of services for students with disabilities.  Manages staff on all campuses, and Auxiliary Learning Aids budgets. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Develops and implements policies and procedures for Disability Resources.  Works closely with General Counsel in the writing of policies for Board recommendations, and in the development of procedures to remain current with state and federal laws.

·         Plans, organizes, implements and coordinates activities of college-wide disabilities unit.

·         Works closely with Pinellas County schools and community agencies that serve the disabled population. 

·         Prepares annual state reports in conjunction with Business Services Unit. Contributes information to a variety of college reports, such as the annual Equity Report

·         Leads Disability Resources committee meetings and determines appropriate staff to serve on the committee.

·         Develops and manages annual disabilities budget.

·         Supervises professional, interpreting and assistive technology staffs college-wide, working closely with campus leadership to ensure consistency in direction given to staff and in service for students college-wide.  Hires new staff when openings occur.

·         Researches funding possibilities to enhance services for students and/or faculty training.  Writes grants, coordinates with College Foundation, and provides information for other college departments in collaboration for specific grants. 

·         Works closely with AIS unit to ensure accurate reporting of student numbers and disabilities for internal and statewide review.

·         Develops training programs for faculty and staff to ensure broad-based understanding of student needs.  Serves as a consultant for faculty and staff with specific student issues.  This may include the operation of an annual conference, coordinated with internal and external groups.

·         Identifies opportunities for improvement in services offered to students and leads staff in determining and implementing strategies to improve recruitment and retention rates.

·         Functions as community liaison and makes presentations to promote and explain the objectives and requirements for service from Disability Resources. 

·         Performs research and gathers technical data to improve the services of the unit.

·         Represents the College on state and local task forces to ensure the College’s views are included in decision making.

·         Assists as needed with operations of Workforce Development Department.

·         Performs related duties as required.

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Masters degree required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Three (3) years experience in a field relating to higher education and disability. A minimum of three (3) years experience in leadership, supervision and budget management.  Community relations and teaching experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of federal and state disabilities law, with specific understanding of the impact on higher education.  Ability to develop and implement strategic plans and manage budgets.  Supervisory skills.  Ability to make presentations to faculty, staff and external groups.  Written and verbal communication skills.  Computer skills.
