POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Manager, Web Programming and Support  

DEPARTMENT: Web & Instructional Technology Services       SITE: SE

SALARY SCHEDULE: A&P                                                         GRADE: D

BASIC FUNCTION:

Manages and coordinates the design, development, maintenance and on-going technological evolution of selected web-based software application systems for student, faculty and staff services and support. This position also supervises assigned programming staff, resources and support required for the selected assigned web-based software application systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

v      Assists the Director of Web & Instructional Technology Services in planning project schedules, priorities, resource requirements and costs for selected assigned academic information application systems.

v      Assists the Director of Web & Instructional Technology Services in identifying technical skills and knowledge, and recommending hiring of the proper staff to meet project schedules and user commitments.

v      Directly manages, supervises and coaches assigned analyst and programming staff to meet computer programs maintenance and development schedules, quality objectives, and user commitments.

v      Guides developers as they define project specifications and requirements. 

v      Supervises user training and rollout of systems. 

v      Coordinates and monitors major projects assigned to programming personnel.

v      Assists analyst programmers and analysts in performing duties and meeting schedules and user commitments at a high level of achievement.

v      Works with developers to standardize all maintenance and documentation of web systems, promoting consistent programming standards and techniques. 

v      Exercises leadership in departmental planning, and in establishing a departmental technology vision, and in promoting the vision and departmental goals both internally and externally.

v      Directs operations of the Web &  Instructional Technology Services Department in Director's absence.

v      Communicates with, responds to, and negotiates with all levels of college personnel to design, develop and maintain systems.

v      Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business, or a related discipline required.  Graduate level work desired. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Four (4) years experience in computer programming development, with 3 years experience as a manager in at least a programmer/analyst position.  Experience must include extensive hands-on work with academic software and software systems design and management. Experience and expertise in web development languages and development tools. Experience and expertise in operating system software and hardware used at the college is preferred

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of a variety of programming languages in use and contemplated by the college, among them PHP, AJAX, ASP, .NET, XML, Flash, CSS and Cold Fusion.  Facility with design of databases and data integrity using SQL and MySQL.  Project management skills.
