POSITION TITLE: Program Director II, Campus Library

 

DEPARTMENT: Academic & Student Affairs                          SITE: Various

 

SALARY SCHEDULE: A&P                             GRADE: D

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

Plans and directs a specific department, discipline, and/or program(s):   campus library or libraries’ operations.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES (included in base salary):

 

Facilitates excellent college library services and resources for students:

 

  • Fosters library faculty collaboration with teaching faculty to incorporate information literacy across the college curriculum.
  • Participates in reference and instruction duties.
  • Advocates on behalf of the needs of students, faculty and staff to SPC Library administration.
  • Facilitates staff, faculty, and student input into the planning and development of library resources and services.
  • Evaluates library processes, procedures, policies, resources and services to determine value, efficiency, and effectiveness.
  • Develops library collections, services, and facilities to meet the changing and continuous needs of students, faculty, and staff.

 

Cultivates a positive, collaborative, and productive work environment for library faculty and staff:

 

  • Hires, evaluates, trains and mentors library faculty and staff.
  • Provides opportunities for library faculty and staff input into library policies, procedures, services and resources.
  • Facilitates opportunities for library faculty and staff to collaborate and share information.
  • Advances the professional development of library faculty and staff.

 

Assures the library’s reputation for providing friendly and knowledgeable customer service, a welcoming and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere, a collection of high quality and popular resources, and efficient and essential library services:

 

  • Evaluates library facilities for their utility and aesthetics.
  • Sustains the overall cleanliness and attractiveness of the library.
  • Coordinates the evaluation and development of library collections and services.
  • Fosters high quality customer service.

 

 

Manages administrative tasks of the campus library and participates in the college-wide management unit, Directors’ Council:

 

  • Reporting to Director of Library Services, serves as member of college-wide library management team. 
  • Communicates with the Director of Libraries and library faculty regarding program policies, procedures, and personnel matters.
  • Interviews, hires, trains, evaluates and manages the work performance of faculty and staff under his/her supervision in accordance with college rules, policies and procedures.
  • Controls equipment/materials utilized within the program.
  • Handles grievances within department as required.
  • Serves as active member of campus leadership team.
  • Assists the Director of Libraries regarding budget matters, strategic planning and organizational visioning.
  • Interacts with external industries, businesses, and professional groups on behalf of the college.
  • Responsible for administering the attendance management system which includes analysis of the Angel and PeopleSoft attendance edit reports for compliance with the college attendance and withdrawal policy for students in library credit courses.
  • Responsible for administering the library management system provided by the state via the College Center for Library Automation (CCLA).  Responsible for collection of data provided by the LMS for purposes of program analysis and furnishing of data for reports required by internal and external agencies.
  • Performs related duties required for the administration and management of the academic program as required or assigned by Director of Libraries, Snr. VP and/or President (includes functions which may vary from one campus to another such as internal and/or external committees, labs, accreditation etc. other functions determined necessary for successful management of the program).

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Master's degree from ALA accredited program. Must be able to be credentialed in the area he/she supervises.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

Minimum three to five years progressively responsible supervisory experience in academic libraries.  Experience with Aleph (Ex Libris) library management system preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Knowledge of and ability to apply computer applications for increased administrative efficiency and productivity. Knowledge of library management systems, electronic resources and services and emerging trends in library services and technologies. Evidence of exemplary collaborative work with discipline faculty and related student support units.  Evidence of supervisory skills.  Strong public service commitment and excellent written and oral communication skills.  Current knowledge of relevant library technologies and trends in higher education.
