POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:  Assistive Technology Specialist

 

DEPARTMENT:     Office of Services for Students With Disabilities      SITE:Various

 

SALARY SCHEDULE: Senior Career                                                    GRADE:7

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

Performs specialized technical work in maintaining the program involving Assistive Technology which involves working with faculty, staff and students on all college campuses.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

v      Maintains the program and system and assures that the college is in compliance with issues involving Assistive Technology

v      Serves as resource person to students, faculty and staff learning specialists

v      Works with faculty to assist with universal design procedures

v      Keeps abreast of latest uses and programs of Assistive Technology in education

v      Trains students and staff on campuses on use of the Assistive Technology program and procedures of the college

v      Creates closed caption telecourses in coordination with faculty and staff

v      Originates closed caption videos used by instructors in instances where they cannot be purchased with closed captioning

v      Utilizes and provides support for C-Print technology including computer configuration

v      Coordinates with technical support staff to keep Assistive Technology program working effectively on campuses

v      Assists in resolving online accessibility issues

v      Operates brailing equipment to meet specific needs of the campuses

v      Maintains Special Needs data base for the college

v      Performs related duties as required

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Bachelor degree in a technology related field is preferred 

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

At Least two (2) years experience in a technology support position. Experience in the field of students with disabilities and Assistive Technology is preferred

 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Knowledge of modern technology and its application to education. Knowledge of, or the ability to gain the knowledge of C-Printing, captioning and brailing. Knowledge of a variety of computer software uses and applications. Familiarity with Assistive Technology software is preferred. Ability to design and implement technology programs and procedures. Ability to work with faculty, staff and students in the program. Ability to operate a motor vehicle in order to visit all college campuses as needed. Ability to communicate with faculty, students and staff in the maintenance of the program. Ability to operate a cell phone or beeper.
