POSITION TITLE: Academic Advisor/College

GRADE: 6
BASIC FUNCTION:
Advises students concerning the choice of
academic courses needed to accomplish the students' academic goals and recruits
students to college programs at the Midtown Center.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Advises students concerning the choice of
academic courses to meet their goals.
- Furnishes students with a planned program to
meet their academic goals.
- Refers students to counselor for any problem
which needs to be examined other than academic, such as vocational testing,
personal counseling, etc.
- Explains the prerequisite requirements to
students for placement in academic courses. Interprets placement test results.
- Assists students in registration procedures.
Proctors testing sessions.
- Procures and discusses resource materials to
assist students in planning vocational and educational goals (beyond the
students' tenure at SPC).
- Provides off-campus functions such as radio
promotions, information booths, presentations, etc.
- Seeks and researches new
information about the college to convey to the community.
- Represents the college at high
school visits, expositions, corporate visits, and other recruitment-related
events.
- Disperses information to the
public, students, and faculty by telephone calls, mailings, information
sessions, and public speaking engagements.
- Ensures that all prospective
students inquiring about the Midtown Center receive follow-up contacts.
- Encourages a team-centered approach
to college-wide recruitment initiatives.
- Performs related duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Associate's Degree. Bachelor's Degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Four (4) years experience in a community college
in student services, student development or related area.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of SPC academic departments and
programs. Ability to use college computer system. Effective verbal and written
communications skills. Good human relations and customer service skills.
Ability to maintain good relationships
with the public, students, faculty and staff.
