POSITION TITLE: Academic Advisor – Baccalaureate Programs

 

DEPARTMENT: Counseling & Advisement             SITE: Various

 

SALARY SCHEDULE: Senior Career                        GRADE: 6

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

The basic function of the Academic Advisor is to provide perspective and current students academic guidance by demonstrating sensitivity to the needs of and communicating effectively with students, faculty, and staff the choice of academic courses needed to accomplish the students' academic goals.  This is to be accomplished by working closely with and/or under the direction of the Baccalaureate Specialist.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Associate's Degree. Bachelor's Degree preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

Four (4) years experience in a college in student services, student development or related area.

 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of SPC academic departments and programs. Understands and uses available technology, materials and tools as related to the job. Knowledge of sentence structure. Knowledge of word usage. Skill in reading comprehension. Skill in proofreading. Knowledge of basic mathematics. Ability to operate data entry equipment, relational databases (i.e. PeopleSoft), e-mail, word processing software, and electronic spreadsheets. Verbal and written communications skills. Human relations skills.
