POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Financial Assistance Specialist
DEPARTMENT: Scholarships & Student Financial Assistance SITE: Various
SALARY SCHEDULE: A&P - GRADE: 6
BASIC FUNCTION:
Advises prospective and currently enrolled students regarding available public and private financial assistance, veteran’s benefits and scholarships in accordance with applicable regulations, statutes and policies.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
v Assesses a person’s financial situation to properly determine financial assistance needs.
v Performs need analysis in accordance with guidelines.
v Keeps abreast of all state and federal rules, regulations and guidelines governing various types of financial aid.
v Conducts student orientations, entrance and exit interviews in accordance with state, federal, college and agency guidelines.
v Maintains liaison with faculty, counselors, staff and students.
v Participates in the development and implementation of departmental procedures as appropriate.
v Assists in one or more of the major areas of financial aid, e.g., scholarships, Pell Grants.
v Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Associate’s degree and two years of financial aid experience or a bachelor’s degree. Customer service experience desired.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures. Knowledge of Federal, State and College policies, procedures and eligibility requirements relating to financial aid. Knowledge of the curriculum and programs at SPC. Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Strong interpersonal and communications skills, both oral and written. Detail oriented and can follow established procedures. Strong computer and mathematical skills. Ability to make sound decisions within established guidelines. Ability to make financial aid presentations to individuals and groups.
