POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Sign Language Interpreter

DEPARTMENT: Offices of Services for Students with Disabilities  SITE: CL

SALARY SCHEDULE: Interpreter Schedule 

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provides interpreting services for students, faculty and staff who are deaf, hard-of-hearing or hearing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Credentialed by the Florida Quality Assurance screening (QA-II, QA-III), Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf or National Association of the Deaf (NAD IV, NAD V). National Certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf preferred.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma. Graduation from Interpreter Training Program preferred.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Interpreting experience in the post-secondary educational field preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of the college programs and procedures relating to deaf/hard-of-hearing students. Knowledge of deafness, sign language and the deaf culture. Knowledge of current trends in deafness related issues. Knowledge of basic mathematics. Ability to use a computer. Ability to communicate with deaf/hard-of-hearing students. Ability to interpret for deaf or hard-of-hearing persons. Skill in sign language.
