POSITION DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT: Library
SALARY
SCHEDULE: Career GRADE: 4
BASIC
FUNCTION:
Provides customer
service and manages/performs complex technical library tasks related to
circulation, acquisitions, serials management, and materials
cataloging/processing in a college library team environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
v Supervises a section
or unit of a library under the direction of a professional librarian.
v Prepares procedures
manuals for the section to which assigned.
v Trains and supervises
clerical staff and/or student assistants.
v Performs complex
clerical and record keeping functions.
v Performs support
activities such as accounting, compiling budget data and statistics,
controlling supplies, handling mail, routing correspondence, preparing time
schedules and payrolls, and/or classifying and processing of print and
audio-visual materials.
v Under the direction
of a professional librarian, provides basic information and technical
assistance at public service points.
v Assists in the
acquisition of library materials.
v Performs related
duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:
Two (2)
years of college-level study; or Associate’s degree with or without library
technical assistant training; or post-secondary training in relevant skills.
EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
Three (3)
years experience in library work or an equivalent combination of education and
experience.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL
REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge of
library processes, materials and techniques. Basic knowledge
of library research techniques including library electronic resources. Written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency in use of integrated library management systems (ILS). Ability to pay attention to
detail. Knowledge of basic mathematics and ability to collect, organize
and manage statistical data. Computer skills with experience
with Word and Excel. Interest in maintaining currency
in evolving technologies. Ability to perform
effectively in a collegial team environment. Ability to lift up to 20
pounds and reach library shelves. Ability to
simultaneously manage multiple tasks. Ability to work nights and/or
weekends and occasional travel between campuses may be required.
