POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Network Technical Support Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Academic Computer Support SITE: AC

SALARY SCHEDULE: Career - GRADE: 2

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provides technical network expertise for the instructional labs, office computers, printers, network electronics, and other network devices. Cooperates with other technical staff in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting technical equipment. The position is primarily assigned to work at one or two of the operating sites of the college.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Associate's degree or equivalent combination of formal network training and work experience in Data Communications, Data Processing or related field. Strongly preferred is successful completion of substantial courses(s) of Microsoft Certified Windows NT training and/or Novell Certified network training.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

One (1) year NT or Novell network support experience required. Four (4) years of dedicated network technical support experience strongly preferred. Substantial experience working in a mixed UNIX/Windows95/-WindowsNT/Apple environment preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of multiple data communications. Knowledge of network equipment and systems. Knowledge of network maintenance procedure. Knowledge of the sources of network components and equipment. Knowledge of telecommunication concepts. Knowledge of telecommunications facilities and trouble shooting techniques. Ability to install and maintain complex networks. Ability to work with users to solve problems. Ability to lift and carry moderately heavy equipment. Skill in programming network equipment. Written and oral communications skills.
