POSITION TITLE: Network Technical Support Specialist

BASIC FUNCTION:

Provides technical network expertise for the instructional labs, office computers, printers, network electronics, and other network devices. Cooperates with other technical staff in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting technical equipment. The position is primarily assigned to work at one or two of the operating sites of the college.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides the first line of on-site network technical support to resolve network-layer issues related to passive and active network hardware, servers, IP address problems, network connection problems, and network-centered system configuration issues.
• Works as the direct information conduit and liaison between the end-users and the Administrative Information Systems managers responsible for centrally managed network-centric services like email, student registration and course management systems (REGIS), the finance system, web-based systems, the collegewide area network, and other information management systems.
• Works in cooperation with the site computer support specialist to install, maintain, and troubleshoot end-user computers, printers, scanners, and other network devices.
• Assists in the design of network systems.
• Performs preventative maintenance on network systems.
• Researches network related solutions to technical and business process problems.
• Performs related duties as required.

Associate's degree or equivalent combination of formal network training and work experience in Data Communications, Data Processing or related field. Strongly preferred is successful completion of substantial courses(s) of Microsoft Certified Windows NT training and/or Novell Certified network training.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

One (1) year NT or Novell network support experience required. Four (4) years of dedicated network technical support experience strongly preferred. Substantial experience working in a mixed UNIX/Windows95/-WindowsNT/Apple environment preferred.
