POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Payroll Specialist II

DEPARTMENT: Business Services SITE: DO

SALARY SCHEDULE: Career - GRADE: 5

BASIC FUNCTION:

Performs advanced and highly complex work in the processing of college payrolls. Duties include lead worker responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

v      Functions as lead worker in the unit which is involved in processing all college payrolls, maintaining leave records and preparing the processing of final checks for college employees.

v      Processes college payrolls and payroll certifications.

v      Responds to employee questions relating to pay or leave records.

v      Performs data input for payroll changes and enters data for new employees.

v      Maintains employee sick leave and vacation records for all college sites.

v      Maintains computerized personnel files related to payroll accounts.

v      Performs clerical and data entry work in maintaining records and reports. Responsible for maintaining files of payroll records.

v      Performs distribution of payroll certifications. Maintains certification books for all payrolls. Distributes payroll reports.

v      Prepares final checks for terminating and retiring college employees.

v      Assists the Payroll Manager in special projects and research.

v      Prepares payroll and related reports and statistical data.

v      Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma, supplemented by college level courses in accounting or bookkeeping.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Five (5) years of responsible experience as a bookkeeper or in accounting with at least two (2) years experience in payroll processing.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of the operations and procedures of the college payroll processing unit. Knowledge of sentence structure. Knowledge of word usage. Skill in reading comprehension. Knowledge of mathematics and basic accounting. Ability to keyboard at a prescribed rate of speed and accuracy. Ability to operate a calculator. Ability to operate data entry equipment. Communications skills. Ability to deal with faculty and staff.
