POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Security Guard

DEPARTMENT: Campus Security SITE: Various

SALARY SCHEDULE: Career - GRADE: 1

BASIC FUNCTION:

Perform routine security duties including routine patrols of campus buildings and grounds, traffic control, security of college facilities, protection of students and staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Investigates and documents all reported incidents and provides documentation to the appropriate college authority.
  • Patrols campus grounds and buildings to ensure well-being of persons and college assets.
  • Prepares and submits written crime and incident reports.
  • Responsible for maintaining security equipment and supplies, i.e., radios, carts, etc.
  • Issues citations to violators of campus traffic regulations.  Enforce parking regulations.
  • Escorts students/staff when requested or otherwise required by circumstances.
  • Provides crowd control duties for registration activities and special events.
  • Assists Senior Security Supervisors in pro-active information programs on campus security and parking regulations.
  • Assists in directing the activities of other personnel as directed by senior security officer.
  • Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have graduated from an accredited high school or possess an equivalency diploma from acceptable source. Some college experience preferred.  Must possess a Security Officer “D” License from the State of Florida.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

One (1) year of security or related experience. Military experience and/or prior security experience desired.  Previous security experience on a college campus preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be familiar with the overall mission of the college, as well as college procedures and practices.  Comprehend general operations of a security department.  Applicant should possess the ability to interact effectively with students, staff and faculty as well as the general public in a tactful manner. Must have excellent verbal communications skills and be able to write complex reports in a coherent manner; and they should possess excellent reading comprehension.  Applicant should possess the ability to assist the Senior Security Supervisor by temporarily overseeing contract personnel on a shift.
