BASIC FUNCTION:
Executes
counseling functions in the student services area.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
v Demonstrates individual initiative
and the ability to be a contributing member of a team.
v Conducts counseling sessions with
students to help them think critically in resolving conflicts, solving
problems, or making decisions.
v Maintains currency in the counseling
profession and demonstrates mature, professional judgments.
v Demonstrates leadership in serving
as a student development specialist, student advocate, and consultant to
faculty and staff.
v Responds to individuals experiencing
difficulties and/or personal problems through appropriate referrals to
community resources.
v Develops and makes presentations
addressing life skills and college success.
v Facilitates student career planning
and decision making. Interprets career assessment instruments.
v Assists in developing annual
departmental objectives and contributes to achieving these objectives.
v Maintains and fosters articulation
activities with high schools, colleges and universities, and academic programs.
v Conducts new student orientations.
v Conveys accurate and current
academic information to students, faculty, and staff.
v Interprets placement test results
and makes appropriate course recommendations.
v Understands and appreciates
individual and cultural diversity.
v Demonstrates sensitivity to the
needs of and communicates effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
v Understands and uses available
technology, materials, and tools related to the job.
v Demonstrates initiative in assuming
new assignments to address the needs of students and the department.
v Follows federal, state, college, and
department guidelines that relate to the job.
v Promotes positive public relations
for the department and the institution.
v Performs related duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in
Counseling or a Master’s degree including 18 graduate hours in Counseling.
