POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Instructor, Ethics
DEPARTMENT: Various SITE: Various

BASIC FUNCTION:
A faculty member at SPC has the primary function of instruction. Secondary functions include assisting the college in developing and maintaining a quality program of instruction, providing service to the college and continuing professional development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
v Fosters academic excellence in teaching and learning.
v Supports the community college philosophy through commitment to success of students with diverse goals, backgrounds and learning styles.
v Instructs students in accordance with college policies, procedures and approved curricula.
v Uses out-of-class duty hours effectively for class preparation, assisting students and participating in department/college activities.
v Serves the college through any of the following: (a) committee membership, (b) curriculum development, (c) development of innovative instruction, (d) sponsorship of student organizations, (e) representation of the college in professionally related community activities, and (f) special projects.
v Supports college extracurricular functions.
v Maintains currency in teaching field(s) through professional development and scholarly activities.
v Demonstrates a professional, cooperative and considerate attitude toward students, colleagues and staff.
v Performs related duties as required.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must possess a doctoral or a master’s degree in the teaching discipline (subject area) or a master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline/subject area). A master's degree in one of the following academic fields: Business (including Management and Administration), Education, Ethics, Bioethics, Law, Law Enforcement, Mass Communications, Medical Sciences (including Nursing and Public Health), Philosophy, Religion and Theology, Public Administration, Engineering, Accounting, Social Work, Marriage & Family Therapy.
A minimum of six (6) graduate hours in actual ethics courses, such as: Ethics in Religion, Bio-Ethics, Legal Ethics, Media Ethics. NOTE: Continuing education/legal education credits do not meet this requirement. Courses with some ethical content are not sufficient. Graduate courses must be from accredited institutions of higher education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Teaching experience preferred for all instructor positions.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Strong written and oral communication skills. Computer skills.
