SALARY
SCHEDULE: Instructional GRADE: N/A
A faculty member at SPC has the primary function of instruction, coaching, and student development. Secondary functions include assisting the College in developing and maintaining a quality program of instruction, providing service to the College and continuing professional development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide counseling to students for advising, registration and curriculum support.
Teaches undergraduate level courses within the College of Education.
Fosters
students motivation, learning and achievement
Designs,
analyzes, and improves the biological sciences curriculum
Demonstrates
both the art and science of teaching
Maintains
appropriate professional liaisons with local, state and national
governmental and professional agencies
Supervises
interns
Maintains
positive working relationships with co-workers, with area cooperating
teachers and others
Develops on-line courses
Advises
College of Education students and student organizations
Assesses
the biological sciences curriculum against state and national standards
Facilitates
active programs of professional development with area K-12 teachers
Promotes
academic excellence and scholarship
Participates
in grant writing and acquisition of external funding for the COE
Serves on various college committees
Works flexible days/evening hours with willingness to travel to surrounding counties/campuses
Mentor new adjunct/Full-Time Faculty
EDUCATIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:
Doctorate (strongly
preferred) or PhD candidate that has an approved proposal and is expecting to
complete his/her PhD within one year or Masters Degree;
in science education.
EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
Experience
in college/university teaching, hold a current valid state-issued teaching
license and a minimum of three years of continuous full time teaching in
biological science at the 7-12 grade levels. Also, familiarity and experience
with collaborative, inclusionary programs is expected.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL
REQUIREMENTS:
A clear understanding of best
practices in teaching biology, of how students learn, and of ways to
demonstrate how science is actually practiced professionally. Proven ability to work
effectively with faculty, staff and community constituents throughout the
educational continuum.
