Position Description

POSITION TITLE: Assistant/Associate Professor, Dental Hygiene

DEPARTMENT: Dental Hygiene SITE: Health Education Center

SALARY SCHEDULE: Instructional 12-Month GRADE: N/A

BASIC FUNCTION:

A faculty member at SPC has the primary function of instruction, coaching, and student development. Secondary functions include assisting the College in developing and maintaining a quality program of instruction, providing service to the College and continuing professional development.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teaches undergraduate upper division level courses within the Dental Hygiene.
Able to foster student motivation, learning and achievement through adult learning principles
Designs, analyzes, and improves the BASDH curriculum
Demonstrates both the art and science of teaching
Maintains appropriate professional liaisons with local, state and national governmental and professional agencies
Establishes positive working relationships with dental and healthcare industry
Develops on-line courses
Promotes academic excellence and scholarships
Serves on various college committees
Student and faculty advising
Works flexible hours may include evenings and weekends
Mentor new adjunct/Full-Time Faculty

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Doctorate (strongly preferred) or PhD candidate that has an approved proposal and is expecting to complete his/her PhD within one year or Masters Degree; in Dental Hygiene or related field required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Experience in college-university teaching with recent practices in area of teaching responsibility.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

A distinguished record of excellence in professional or teaching career. Proven ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and other community constituents throughout the health care industry.
