Position Description

 

POSITION TITLE: Assistant/Associate Professor, Nursing

 

DEPARTMENT: College of Nursing                   SITE: Health Education Center

 

SALARY SCHEDULE: Instructional 12 Month GRADE: N/A

 

 

BASIC FUNCTION:

 

A faculty member at SPC has the primary function of instruction, coaching and student development. Secondary functions include assisting the College in developing and maintaining a quality program of instruction, providing service to the College and continuing professional development. 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

v      Teaches undergraduate upper division level courses within the College of Nursing

v      Able to foster student motivation, learning and achievement through adult learning principles

v     Designs, analyzes, and improves the BSN curriculum

v      Demonstrates both the art and science of teaching

v      Maintains appropriate professional liaisons with local, state and national governmental and professional agencies

v      Establishes positive working relationships with local healthcare industry

v      Assists with and maintains nursing education for accreditation standards

v      Develops on-line courses

v      Promotes academic excellence and scholarships

v      Serves on various college committees

v     Works flexible hours including evening and weekends

 

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Doctorate in Nursing(strongly preferred) or Doctoral candidate that has an approved proposal and is expecting to complete the degree within one year or Masters Degree in Nursing; must have at least one graduate degree in Nursing.  Experience in Nursing education preferred. Experience in clinical areas of Nursing strongly desired.

 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

 

Prefer experience in nursing education teaching and recent clinical practice in area of teaching responsibility.

 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

 

A distinguished record of excellence in professional or teaching career with demonstrated ability to work with faculty, staff and community constituents throughout the health care industry.  Strong written and oral communication skills; computer skills required.
