Description
SALARY
SCHEDULE: Instructional 12 Month GRADE: N/A
A faculty member at
SPC has the primary function of instruction, coaching and student
development. Secondary functions include assisting the College in developing and
maintaining a quality program of instruction, providing service to the College
and continuing professional development.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide counseling to students for advising, registration and curriculum support.
Teaches
undergraduate level courses within the College of Education. Able
to inspire students and develop them as future professionals
Fosters
student motivation, learning and achievement
Designs,
analyzes, and improves the special education curriculum
Demonstrates
both the art and science of teaching
Maintains
appropriate professional liaisons with local, state and national
governmental and professional agencies
Supervises
interns
Maintains
positive working relationships with co-workers, with area cooperating
teachers and others
Develops on-line courses
Advises
College of Education students and student organizations
Assesses
the special education curriculum against state and national standards
Facilitates
active programs of professional development with area K-12 teachers
Promotes
academic excellence and scholarship
Participates
in grant writing and acquisition of external funding for the COE
Serves on various college committees
Works flexible days/evenings hours with willingness to travel to surrounding counties/campuses
Mentor new adjunct/Full-Time Faculty
EDUCATIONAL
REQUIREMENTS:
Doctorate (strongly preferred) or PhD candidate that has an approved proposal and is expecting to complete the PhD within one year or Masters Degree; in special education.
EXPERIENCE
REQUIREMENTS:
Experience in college/university teaching, a current valid state-issued teaching
license is preferred.
Certification and experience in Elementary
Education desirable.
A minimum of three years of continuous full time teaching K-12
students with disabilities. Also, familiarity and experience with collaborative, inclusionary programs is expected.
KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL
REQUIREMENTS:
Must have a clear understanding of best
practices in teaching mild disabilities and how students learn.
Demonstrated ability of being able to work as a positive and productive team
member and able to collaborate with public schools. Proven ability to work
effectively with faculty, staff and community constituents throughout the
educational continuum.
