Position Description

POSITION TITLE:  Assistant/Associate Professor, Veterinary Technology

DEPARTMENT: Veterinary Technology     SITE: Health Education Center 

SALARY SCHEDULE: Instructional 12 Month   GRADE:  N/A

BASIC FUNCTION:
 

A faculty member at SPC has the primary function of instruction, coaching, and student development. Secondary functions include assisting the College in developing and maintaining a quality program of instruction, providing service to the College and continuing professional development.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Teaches undergraduate upper division level courses, in hospital management, within the Bachelor’s of Applied Science School of Veterinary Technology (BASVT)
• Is able to inspire students and develop them as future professionals
• Fosters student motivation, learning and achievement
• Designs, analyzes, and improves the BASVT curriculum
• Demonstrates both the art and science of teaching
• Maintains appropriate professional liaisons with local, state and national governmental and professional agencies
• Establishes positive working relationships within veterinary industry  
• Maintains positive working relationships with co-workers (faculty, staff and administration)
• Supports the mission, vision and values of the BASVT
• Develops and improves on-line courses 
• Advises BASVT students and student organizations
• Assesses the BASVT curriculum against state and national standards
• Possesses a thorough understanding of state, national accreditation standards, and appropriate assessment strategies
• Facilitates active programs of professional development
• Promotes academic excellence and scholarship within the BASVT
• Participates in grant writing and acquisition of external funding, if appropriate 
• Serves on various college committees
• Works flexible days/evenings/hours with willingness to travel to surrounding counties/campuses
• Mentors new and adjunct faculty

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology with a graduate degree in a related field or Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and graduate degree in business, from a regionally accredited institution.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
 

Experience in college/university teaching with recent practices in area of teaching responsibility. Three years hospital management experience in veterinary medicine.
 

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

A distinguished record of excellence in professional or teaching career.   Proven ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff and other stakeholders throughout the educational continuum.  Strong written and oral communications skills; computer skills; assessment expertise.
