POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Senior Network Design & Security Engineer

DEPARTMENT: Information Systems                        SITE: SEM

SALARY SCHEDULE: Technical                               GRADE: 4

BASIC FUNCTION:

Responsible for design and maintenance of college-wide network and telecommunication systems including the College's network security program, wide area network, internet connectivity and telephone PBX equipment. Provides project management and facilitates the development, implementation and updating of college wide technology policies, procedures and user awareness of network resources and security requirements.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

v      Design, installation, testing and maintenance of the college-wide data network telecommunication systems. Includes network and security hardware and software architecture, wide area networking equipment, local area core routers/switches, Internet connections and voice over IP telephone system.

v      Develops and maintains network security and access control policies and procedures in coordination with upper management, and implementation of such policies and procedures in conjunction with other technical staff.

v      Develops the deployment of information systems security mechanisms such as firewalls, IDS's, VPN servers and management stations, and monitoring and periodically reporting security issues to management.

v      Develops and maintains technical documentation of the College's network architecture, security architecture, and access control procedures.

v      Provides assistance to the Director of Network Systems, Helpdesk and Television Operations with the development and coordination of college-wide network projects.

v      Provides project management for College Technology projects including but not limited to voice, video and data networks, servers and information technology systems.

v      Performs installation and administration of Information Systems servers as directed.

v      Performs preventative maintenance on network systems.

v      Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Associates degree or equivalent combination of formal network training and work experience in Data Communications or related fields. Successful completion of substantial courses in one of the following is preferred: Microsoft Certified Windows training, Cisco Certified network training, Novell Certified network training or industry standard security certifications such as SANS, ISC2, SCP, Checkpoint etc.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Four (4) years experience in information systems, data communications, telecommunications or related field.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of computer networking systems, telecommunications systems, desktop operating systems, and server operating systems (NT, Linux). Knowledge of integrated voice-video-data and VoIP networks both LAN and WAN. Skilled in design of complex networks utilizing advanced prioritization and security mechanisms. Knowledge and skill of information systems security concepts such as access controls, firewalls, IDS's, VPN servers and management stations. Ability to pass a post-qualification physical examination.
