POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Skilled Tradesworker

DEPARTMENT: Institutional Services SITE: Various

SALARY SCHEDULE: Facilities/Skilled Trades - Level: 2

BASIC FUNCTION:

Performs skilled construction tasks from renovation to finished construction of facilities at college sites in accordance with college specifications and standards as well as Florida Building Code.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

v      Performs skilled labor in several trade areas such as rough carpentry, minor plumbing, framing, hanging of drywall, drywall finishing, plaster work and stucco and electrical work.

v      May be assigned to the cabinet shop on a temporary or full-time basis performing rough and finish carpentry work.

v      Performs masonry work, patches and paints interior and exterior of buildings and structures.

v      Responsible for the maintenance of assigned vehicle.

v      Responsible for the design layouts needed for permitting as required by the Florida Building Code.

v      Responsible for working with Facilities Planning and Institutional Services Safety and Environmental department on all jobs.

v      Repairs and replaces doors, windows and may install hardware.

v      May assist In-House electrician in the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical systems.

v      Assists maintenance personnel and performs building maintenance tasks.

v      Maintains records of time and material used on jobs.

v      Performs related duties as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Three (3) years experience in one or more of the construction trades with emphasis on the particular area of specialization required by the college.

KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge of the construction trades. Knowledge of building codes. Ability to climb ladders and lift heavy equipment. Knowledge of the equipment and tools used in a variety of trades work. Knowledge of basic mathematics. Skill in reading comprehension. Ability to pass a post qualification physical examination. Must possess a CDL Class "D" Florida Driver's License.
