You may study in your present educational program for the time allowed on your SEVIS I-20. If you have not finished your program by the expiration date, you must file for an extension of your program with your international student officer or advisor.
Change of major/degree program:
When changing major/degree programs, you must visit an academic advisor to discuss career changes and visit your international student officer or advisor for a new SEVIS I-20.
Completion of degree requirements:
Make sure to see an academic advisor to ensure that you have completed all degree requirements before you apply for graduation.
Upon completion of degree requirements/graduation, you can:
1. Continue studies at SPC for another degree.
2. Apply for one year of “Post-Completion Practical Training” employment (available for certain programs). Contact us to apply for “Post-Completion Practical Training” at least 90 days before graduation/completion of program.
3. Take up to 60 days to leave the United States.
4. Transfer to a different institution.
5. Change your status to a different nonimmigrant visa (if eligible).
Dual attendance or transfer to another school:
Transfer and temporary attendance at another school while enrolled at this school should be discussed with an academic advisor and your international student officer or advisor.
MAINTAINING F-1 STATUS
To maintain F-1 status, you must enroll for a minimum of 12 credits each term (except summer term, unless it is your first term of attendance) and maintain a good academic standing. Employment is not permitted without authorization. If you work without authorization, you will be out of status.
If you fail to maintain F-1 status, the school will terminate your attendance and report it to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
HEALTH INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS
International students at SPC are required to have injury/sickness insurance that includes “repatriation and medical evacuation” coverage. You may purchase international health insurance online.
When you receive your I.D. card, please bring to the International Center. If you have insurance from your country, please advise the International office.
