This page covers a variety of additional immigration topics.
TAXES
Income Tax:
Filing a tax return is required by Florida and the United States Government for all money earned that is taxable. Form 1040NR is available at www.IRS.gov. It is recommended that you obtain tax advice from a qualified expert.
Social Security Tax:
Students on F and J visas are exempt from paying Social Security tax. It’s necessary to complete the required forms with your employer.
HOLIDAYS AND VACATIONS
You may remain in the United States and will be considered to be maintaining lawful F-1 status during holidays and vacation periods observed by SPC. This includes summer vacations – provided you are in status, you intend to register for the next school term and your I-20 has not expired. If you plan to leave the U.S. for vacation, check the dates on your I-20 to ensure that it won’t expire and then present your I-20 for signature to your international student officer/advisor.
