FOR ART STUDENTS AND EDUCATION MAJORS
JAPAN
The 16-day Japan study abroad program provides an opportunity for art students to learn Japanese pottery techniques and for education majors to work with students with developmental disabilities.
Study abroad students will visit Osaka, the ancient city of Nara, and Kyoto, which was the Imperial capital of Japan for 1,000 years.
The program envisions the education majors focusing their studies primarily in Nara at Tanpopo-no-ye, a non-profit organization that provides art education to people with developmental disabilities through its innovative ARTLINK program. ARTLINK is a professional artist mentorship project invented and developed first in St. Petersburg, Florida at Creative Clay, Inc. Now ARTLINK projects are occurring throughout Asia and in several cities in Japan as well as in St. Petersburg.
Study abroad art students will spend three days with the education majors and clients at Tanpopo-no-ye, then will move on to the town of Shigaraki, one of six ancient Japanese kiln sites, to work in a pottery studio to produce ceramic ware.
Program dates: July 12-27, 2008
The program coordinator is Joseph Smiley.
PROGRAM COST ESTIMATES
We have provided a detailed cost estimate summary for your convenience.
NEED FINANCIAL AID HELP?
We are happy to announce that Wayne Kruger, assistant director of Financial Assistance Services, is available to answer any questions you may have about financial aid for this year’s Study Abroad program.
Because several of the cost items for each trip are optional or variable, your cost may differ from the examples shown on this Web site. For instance, one student found a round-trip airfare to Ecuador that was over $500 less than our estimates. So please explore all your options. We hope to include as many of you as possible on these trips!
