Process improvement plans
frequently require research on industry(s) or company(s) to
understand best practices that may support further
opportunities. It can be helpful to look for articles on
the associated industry or company, as well as other analyst
perspectives. Additional research on competitors can help
you to see trends and further ideas, as well as prove a
credible source to justify some improvement initiatives.
Plus there are often other industries that have a similar
process that might share improvement strategies that can be
customized to suite your industry. When we tackle issues on
a process using only what we currently know, often our ideas
are limited or sub-optimal. So in addition to getting input
from other stakeholders relative to your process, students
need to be able to do credible research to gather further
knowledge that can offer valuable and richer ideas for
improvements. As you work to grow your career, managers
often stay on top of trade magazines and other sources for
best practices to support further decisions and actions.
