Weekday Business Person's Specials - The Business Person's Specials computer and business applications courses also are available at various times throughout the week. Courses are offered for college credit at one credit hour. Cost and Registration | College Credit and Grading Information | Equipment Class Meeting Times | Campus Information | Mailing List Information Course Descriptions | Current Session Class Schedules The cost of each course is the normal college charge for tuition, $73.16 per credit hour, lab fees of $23.20 and one-time college application fee of $35.00. Regular college registration procedures apply. Required textbooks, diskettes or CD's, and Scantron sheets (when necessary) must be purchased prior to class in the bookstore on the campus at which the class is held. The drop deadline is 2:00 pm on the Friday before the start of classes. College Credit and Grading Information Each class carries college-level credit. For those wishing to receive credit for the course, the student must complete the class, a test and an outside project. Missing two or more hours of class time can result in a grade of "W" (withdrawal) for the WCI class. Grading Policy for Weekend Computer Institute Classes During the first class session, all students must select one of the following grades options. No changes are permitted. Grading Option and Effect Letter Grade (A, B, C, D and F)- Student earns college credit. The grade received will affect overall grade point average positively or negatively. Students must complete all assigned in-class performance exercises, a quiz / test, and assignments. Student will earn a letter grade based on the grade scale identified in the course syllabus. Pass (P) Fail (F) - Student earns college credit with a passing grade. The grade received will not affect grade point average. Students must complete all assigned in-class performance exercises, a quiz / test, and assignments. Student will earn a passing grade ("P") with 60% or greater performance. Student will earn a failing grade ("F") with less than 60% performance. Classes are taught with a variety of computer hardware. The ratio of computers to students is one-to-one. All Campus's for WCI ~ Saturdays 8am-5pm Weekend Computer Institute classes meet two consecutive Saturdays for a one-credit class. NOTE: Some courses such as COP1822 - Web Page Creation and COP1829 - Web Graphics are offered using different software; thus be careful when registering to choose the correct class number for the version you want. (Example: COP1822 - Web Page Creation/Dreamweaver or COP1822 - Web Page Creation/HTML).
ACCESS (CGS 1540) - Using this program, the student will learn how to plan, create, use and change databases. ADOBE PHOTOSHOP (OST 1810 & OST 1812) - Adobe PhotoShop is the industry-standard application for photo-realistic graphics, in print and on the Web. This introductory course teaches students the basics of PhotoShop including file formats, cropping, resizing, selection tools, filters, text and layers. BASIC COMPUTER/INFO LIT (CTS 1101) - This course is designed to develop computer and information literacy skills to help students become active participants in the Information Age. It will consist of 2 hours of Windows, terminology and file management; 3 hours Microsoft Word; 3 hour Microsoft Excel; 4 hours electronic research, critical thinking and analysis; 4 hours Internet browser and search engines, effective searching and evaluating sites. INTERNET ORIENTATION (OST 1793) - An introductory course designed to acquaint students with basic use of the Internet, Netscape, and the World Wide Web, understanding the terminology, using electronic mail on the Internet, finding files in Gopherspace, downloading information and conducting research. MS EXCEL (CGS 1510) - A study of spreadsheets using the Excel software package. Topics include: creation of spreadsheets, calculation, graphing of data, and creation and printing of reports. MS OUTLOOK (OST 2760) - This course develops advanced skills in a powerful desktop information management (DIM) program that assists in organizing work schedules, tracking files and communication with others. Students will use high level skills of Microsoft Office software suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) to create integrated planners, various integrated applications files and multi-user information sharing through DIM. MS POWERPOINT (CGS 1520) - A course designed to teach the use of graphics software to generate a variety of graphs for presenting or analyzing business data. MS WORD (CTS 1741) - An introductory word processing course utilizing Microsoft Word. Students will be introduced to creating, formatting and printing documents. Other topics include the use of style sheets and special features such as multiple columns and document merging. WEB GRAPHICS - FIREWORKS (COP 1829) - Macromedia Fireworks is a graphics program that enables you to create, edit, and optimize images for use on the Web. You can also import and edit images of various file types, export images, to different file formats, and create dynamic Web site components. WEB GRAPHICS - FLASH (COP 1829) - Macromedia Flash is an industry-standard application for creating animation on the Web. In this introductory course, students will learn the basics of the Flash application, including drawing and modifying an image, symbols, layering and creating simple actions. WEB PAGE CREATION - DREAMWEAVER (COP 1822) - Macromedia Dreamweaver is an industry-standard HTML editor. Students will be introduced to the program's interface, working with HTML directly and via the WYSYG editor, handling images, forms, tables, inserting media and site management. WEB PAGE CREATION - HTML (COP 1822) - This course is designed to introduce an experienced computer user to the tools necessary to create a Web site. Students will be exposed to the protocol and vocabulary of Web production, and apply HTML to the development of a World Wide Web site. WINDOWS XP (CGS 1930) - Students will learn 32-bit architecture, multi-tasking, multi-processing and Windows XP subsystems.
