What is
“Articulation”?
A key component of the Career Pathways/Tech Prep is program articulation. The term
“articulation” refers to the planned process of linking two or more educational
systems. The goal is to assist students in making a smooth transition from one level
of education to another without causing delays, duplication in learning, or
loss of credits.
High schools, community colleges, or other educational institutions, and
employers, work together to develop career paths from one institution to
another to avoid duplication of coursework and to provide a smooth sequence of
classes from one level to the other.
An articulation agreement is a signed document that indicates the specific
responsibilities and competencies that the secondary school, the postsecondary
institution, and the student must accomplish to receive FREE college credit for
the program they are taking in high school or technical school.
Within articulated Career Pathways/Tech Prep programs are articulated courses, high school or
technical school courses that contain the same course content as an equivalent
college course, and for which a postsecondary institution has agreed to award
FREE college credit if the student meets requirements outlined in the course
articulation agreement.
