How to get started in SPC's Paralegal Studies Program
If you are applying for the Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.S.) in Paralegal Studies, please check out this information on the B.A.S. curriculum and application procedures.
For the Associate in Science (A.S.) in Paralegal Studies Program, follow the procedures below:
- Attend one of the paralegal studies orientation sessions for new students held each
semester. Call (727) 791-2557 to register for the next session.
At the orientation, issues of registration, transfer of credits, course
requirements, expectations, parking, books and others will
be discussed. The orientation will also include a discussion of the
paralegal field and employment opportunities.
- Submit an application form to the admissions office. You can also apply online at MySPC.
If you are a former SPC or SPJC student but have not been attending classes for a year or more, download the application pdf and fill it out marking “readmission” and filling in your student number. There is no fee for readmission.
If you have attended college elsewhere, you should follow these official admissions steps.
SAT or ACT scores taken within two years can be used for placement
purposes. Placement testing is required for the Paralegal/Paralegal Studies Program. In order to register for PLA 1003 Introduction to Legal Assisting, you must place at a college reading and writing level.
- See the Paralegal Studies
Program Transfer Policy and Practices to help you understand how
your credits will transfer into SPC's Paralegal Studies Program.
- Speak with the Program Director (Susan Demers, 727-791-2501) to
determine the best course of study for you. The counselors can be of
great assistance, but you should make it a point to speak directly with
the program director regularly during your college career.
