My Teaching Philosophy:

My teaching philosophy is supportive of reaching a ‘life application experience’ outcome. Meaning all newly gained knowledge of the learner is relevant when supportive of their real life experiences. As an educator who has gained teaching experience inclusive of grade levels PK-20 has granted me with extensive diverse student interaction. Overall, my teaching and learning mission is sevenfold in nature to:

  • promote a learning desire;
  • encourage discipline based curiosity in learners;
  • promote reading;
  • enhance research skills;
  • eradicate the fear of new learning;
  • develop strong critical thinking skills as independent learners;
  • achieve self-confidence supportive of being lifelong learners.

The outcomes of my learning objectives are established via a wide variety of learning strategies, principles, and applied theories. Above all the hands-on experiences are mandatory. The use of lesson plans, identified learning objectives, identifying pre-determined learning outcomes, and the use of multiple learning theories such as action learning and cognitive learning are all supportive of behavioral theories that are both essential and beneficial to learners. In conclusion, as a long-time mentor of hundreds of college and PK -12 students, I am a strong enthusiast of the mentoring concept.

The National Council on Black American Affairs, is a council of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). The NCBAA evolved over 30 years ago, during a time of great social, political, cultural, and educational change in the United States. African Americans and other groups that were underrepresented traditionally were enrolling in increasing numbers. Community colleges were being established at the rate of one per week.
