The Math and Science Club

Constitution.

ARTICLE I. NAME OF ASSOCIATION.

The organization is known as Saint Petersburg College’s Clearwater Campus Math and Science Club.

ARTICLE II. ASSOCIATION PURPOSE.

The Math Club is a social SIG (Special Interest Group). Social groups at St. Petersburg College’s Clearwater Campus do not require any sort of scholastic proficiency. Academic cutoffs are not utilized. The club exists both to aid members with developing mathematical skills and to provide a friendly forum for those with interests in math and science.

ARTICLE III. MEMBERSHIP.

Students interested in joining The Math and Science Club need only register and participate in at least 50% of the meetings.

ARTICLE IV. OFFICES.

Members may nominate any club member for an available office. If a club member wishes to run for an available office, he may nominate himself. Once a member is nominated, the nomination must be seconded to carry. Officers will be elected with a majority of the club vote. Once elected, an officer will, of course, be responsible for all duties pertaining to that position. The following positions, if free, are open to members:

A.      President: Unequivocally the most challenging position available in The Math and Science Club is the Presidency. As President, one will be required to chair all general meetings with only the slightest exemptions. The President is also required to "fill in" for any non-active members, making the presidency the most madding, as well as rewarding position.

B.       Vice President: The Vice President of The Math and Science Club is required to "fill in" for the President when needed. He is also required to head a special "Publicity Committee," resolved to recruit new members. Also required of the "VP" is an eagerness to chair special meetings, events, and/or committees. This office requires an abundance of free time.

C.       Secretary: *Although no extensive "minutes" will be taken at any Math and Science Club meeting or event, the Secretary is required to take important and topical notes during regular meetings. These informal records are to be typed, read at the subsequent meeting, and given to a club advisor for filing.

D.      Treasurer:* The position of Treasurer of the Math and Science Club requires continual knowledge of available funds and club holdings. Typically, all funds raised through membership dues and fundraising/club events will be retained by an advisor.

E.       Student Government Association (SGA) Representative: The SGA SIG Representative for The Math and Science Club will be required to attend weekly Student Government Association meetings and relay dates, times and details of SGA functions to the Math and Science Club assembly. The "rep" must also inform the SGA body of relevant Math and Science Club business. To hold this position, a club member must join SGA, a college-coordinated organization which requires a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0, enrollment in a minimum of six (6) semester hours and good college standing.

ARTICLE IV. MEETING AGENDUM AND PARLIAMENTARY PROCEDURE.

Normally, meetings will be conducted in free form. Strict parliamentary procedure, including "Robert’s Rules" will not be exercised in Math and Science Club meetings. A basic parliamentary outline, for purposes of order maintenance, will be followed.

ARTICLE V. AMENDMENTS TO THE CONSTITUTION.

This constitution may be amended with an affirmative, majority vote of the club’s member body.

*Under special circumstances, such as unusually low membership, the Secretary and Treasurer positions may be consolidated.
