Polishing Your Business Writing Skills

Description
Writing made easy and fun is what this workshop is about.  The Wall Street Journal notes that 80% of US businesses cited written communication skills as employees’ biggest skill problem yet, 98% of top executives say that effective business writing is the skill most needed for professional recognition and success.  If you struggle over the wording of your business writing or lack confidence that your sentences are grammatically correct, this workshop can help you change that.  Instructional Materials included.

Objectives

  • Organize your written communication – from e-mails and letters to reports, procedures and proposals.

  • Gain tips for getting and keeping the reader’s attention

  • Learn where to place the main point in a document to achieve the greatest impact

  • Know when to use the active voice and when to use the passive voice

  • Add power to your document by choosing verbs that have impact

  • Get to the point and avoid watering down your message with wordiness

  • Avoid confusing or ridiculous sentences by placing clauses appropriately

  • Use the essential rules of grammar (e.g. as subject/verb agreement, noun/pronoun agreement, correct use of verb tenses, correct punctuation, etc)
