SPC’s new $11 million, Veterinary Technology facility boasts more than 32,000 square feet of state-of-the-art classrooms, labs, surgery and x-ray suites, kennels and offices. Located next door to Pinellas County Animal Services on Ulmerton Road, the convenient location will make it easy for SPC students to get valuable work experience and for county services to get a volunteer boost. SPC’s Veterinary Technology Center was awarded LEED® Gold certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
Veterinary technicians use their scientific knowledge and skills for the benefit of society through the protection of animal health, the relief of animal suffering, the conservation of livestock resources, the promotion of public health, and the advancement of medical knowledge. Upon graduation, students are awarded the Associate in Science Degree in Veterinary Technology. Students can then sit for the professional exams from the Florida Veterinary Medical Association or the
Florida Veterinary Technician Association.
SPCs Veterinary Technology Program and Distance Education Program are both accredited by the Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). There are currently more than 85 programs in the United States accredited by CVTEA.
St. Petersburg College also offers a four-year degree program in Veterinary Technology, designed to give students the knowledge and skills to become administrators and leaders in the veterinary technology field.
