How to Disable the Popup Blocker

Some content on the college websites displays in a pop-up window. You may have to disable your browser's pop-up blocker in order to see some content.

To browse websites, I use...

Internet Explorer 8
Internet Explorer 9
Mozilla Firefox 3.6
Mozilla Firefox 4 or 5

Apple Safari 5.1.5

Google Chrome

I do not know. How would I find out?
Which browser should I use with SPC's online courses?

Internet Explorer 8

Step 1: With Internet Explorer open, click the "Tools" menu in the upper right corner of your window.

Step 2: Place your cursor over "Pop-up Blocker" (do not click). Another menu should appear either to the left or right of this menu. Click "Turn Off Pop-up Blocker".

Step 3: The "Tools" menu will close automatically after this. Click on the blocked link once again, and the previously blocked pop-up window should appear.

Tip: You may use the "Pop-up Blocker Settings" option to only allow pop-ups from college websites. All you'll have to do is add sites such as 'www.spcollege.edu' and 'angel.spcollege.edu'.

Internet Explorer 9

Mozilla Firefox 4.0 or 5.0

Step 1: With Mozilla Firefox open, click on the orange "Firefox" tab at the upper left corner of the screen, and then click on the "Options" button.

Step 2: Click the "Content" image tab.

Step 3: Uncheck the box next to 'Block pop-up windows'. Click 'OK'. Then click on the blocked link once again, and the previously blocked pop-up window should appear.

Apple Safari

Step 1: With Apple Safari open, click on the icon of a gear (outlined in red with the numeral 1), then click "Block Pop-Up Windows" (outlined in red with the numeral 2). There should no longer be a check next to "Block Pop-Up Windows".

Google Chrome

I don't know what browser or version I'm using.

A 'web browser' or 'browser' is the program used to access files hosted on the Internet. Not all web browsers are alike. Some web browsers have incompatibilities with the systems used for St. Petersburg College. One way to determine which web browser you're using is to look at what icon you click in order to get to the Internet. Here are some common web browsers and the desktop icons associated with them:

Internet Explorer
Mozilla Firefox
Google Chrome
Safari
Opera

Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 8 or Mozilla Firefox 3.6 or 6.0 are the most compatible. Internet Explorer 9 is compatible if Compatibility View is enabled. You only need one of these to meet the requirements. If you do not have one of these browsers, Mozilla Firefox 3.6 can be obtained easily from these download links: Windows or Mac.

Mozilla Firefox 3.6 can be obtained easily from these download links: Windows or Mac.

Finding out a browser's version is often more difficult, as this method varies by individual browser and version. Typically, you may find the version number by clicking "Help" in the toolbar, and then "About Internet Explorer" or "About Firefox". You may need assistance determining the version. If you're having trouble, call the technical support desk at 727-341-4357.
