St. Petersburg College Honors College Conference
February 11, 2008, Epicenter, 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Full Conference Schedule (PDF)

Our conference is organized to celebrate honors knowledge, to share the best honors experiences, and to build strong students-faculty networks. Knowledge, experience and networks are essential parts of the mission of the Honors College, and they can be best represented and accumulated at the conferences.

Our main goal is expanding and enhancing your honors experience through participation in interesting student presentations, and an interdisciplinary faculty-students forum on Saving the Planet Earth.

We are planning the faculty-students panel related to the International Year of Planet Earth, which is an ambitious initiative designed to foster outreach and research activities with the single purpose of raising worldwide public and political awareness of the vast (but often under-used) potential of Earth sciences for improving the quality of life and safeguarding the planet.

You, as a student, can become involved. Please, join our discussion “Planet Earth In Our Hands and Our Action Plan” – please, email at honors.college@spcollege.edu and review our main topics for the forum:

  • Groundwater: Towards sustainable use
  • Hazards: Minimizing risk, maximizing awareness
  • Earth & Health: Building a safer environment
  • Climate: The stone tape.
  • Resource issues: Towards sustainable use
  • Megacities: Going deeper, building safer
  • Deep Earth: From crust to core
  • Ocean: Abyss of time
  • Soil: Earth’s living skin
  • Outreach: Bringing earth sciences to everyone
  • Earth & Life: The origins of diversity
