Biography

I am a relatively new resident of Florida. Born and raised in Michigan and educated in Chicago I was anxious to leave the cold midwest and relocate to the sunny seaside. I attended the University of Michigan where I earned a B.A. in English and a B.A. in Communications. After working in sales for several years in Chicago I decided to pursue my dream of becoming an educator. Depaul University had the program that met my needs and I earned a Masters in English and a Masters in Education while teaching at the college level. After working with college students there was a postion that opened in an inner-city, at-risk high school on the west side of Chicago. It was a challenging and rewarding experience that changed my outlook on my profession and my goals.

After seven years in the windy city I decided to return to Michigan to teach at my alma mater, Detroit Country Day School. It was an honor to work with the fine individuals who were, at one time, responsible for shaping my identity. Working with my former educators taught me many lessons about the way teachers and students interact and how impactful that relationship can be.

Spending that time in Michigan near my family and with old friends was invaluable. However, the gray, cold days took their toll and the idea of moving to the sunny state of Florida was very appealing. The opportunity to teach at SPC was one I could not pass up, so moving to Florida in the fall was an easy decision. I have never looked back.
