Biography
Professor Austin Vickrey holds a Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance from the University of Utah (2000) and a Master of Music in Jazz Studies from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (2004). After receiving his Master's degree, Mr. Vickrey was the Assistant Instrumental Director at Earlham College in Richmond, IN (2004-2008) where he directed the Earlham Jazz Ensemble, taught private lessons in saxophone, improvisation, and jazz theory. In addition to being an instructor of music, Mr. Vickrey is an accomplished saxophonist and performer. He is well versed in several genres of music ranging from jazz and classical to funk, latin, and R&B. Some of Mr. Vickrey's performance credits include shows with The Cab Calloway Orchestra, Nelson Riddle Orchestra, Al Martino, The O-Jay's, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Lou Rawls, and funk legend, Bootsy Collins. Since having moved to St. Petersburg, FL in 2008, Mr. Vickrey continues to teach and perform regularly throughout the Tampa Bay area. He currently performs with the SPC based Helios Jazz Orchestra, The Tomkats Big Band, the Don Juceam Orchestra, as well as with his own quartet/trio and many other local artists.

Access to a PC or Mac computer:
The required text for this course is an interactive CD e-text (MFun). As long as your Mac or PC computer has a CD drive, you may load the software and work from your own computer. You will also need internet access to register the software and receive your transcript.mft file.
MFun will also be installed in two music computer labs, the SPC Main Library, and the SPC Learning Center in the TE building.
If you choose to work on MFun in a computer lab, you will need to use a flash drive to store and keep track of your transcript.mft file in order to properly submit up-to-date work. You should also provide your own headphones to hear audio examples.
