Biography
I was born and raised near Dayton, Ohio and lived in the vicinity of Dayton until 2004 when I moved to Pinellas Park. I received a B.A. in Mass Communications from Wright State University in Dayton and an M.A. in Speech Communication from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. In December 2007 I completed my doctoral studies at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida, and received a Ph.D. in Leadership and Education. I have taught various communication and public speaking courses at colleges and universities in Ohio including Miami University, RETS Technical Center, and Sinclair Community College. I joined SPC Seminole Campus as a full-time speech instructor in August 2004, and I am thrilled with my new life and career in Florida.
I feel the best part of teaching is meeting, working with, and getting to know the many students enrolled in my classes each semester. I have a great deal of passion and respect for the value of effective communication as a means of enhancing students’ education, careers, relationships, and quality of life. In short, I love teaching and strongly believe in what I teach. Some students are understandably reluctant or afraid to take a class that involves public speaking, and being able to help many students manage their fear of public speaking makes me very happy with my career and my place in the world.
Outside the college and classroom, I love rock and alternative music. My favorite artists are Peter Gabriel, R.E.M., Radiohead, Cracker, Dishwalla, Black Lab, The Cars, Collective Soul, Secret Machines, and Our Lady Peace. I also enjoy movies, swimming, basketball, traveling, dining out, fantasy football, playing cards and old-school video games (they don’t make ‘em like they used to!), and shopping for frog merchandise (I REALLY like frogs for some reason).
Thanks for reading my bio and have a great semester at SPC.
